Reminds me of Digimon a lot. In the Digimon universe, they have a whole hierarchy of angel Digimon. Ophanimon's shoulder armor that's based on the angel that looks like a wheel. There are even fallen forms of holy digimon.

Concept vs sprite, for Ghislain. The biggest change is their cloak covers more when it used to be folded back over their shoulders somewhat. I think it's ultimately a better design choice that tells you more about the character, but it's still surprising to see the change.

indication of light is coming from the top-middle right

convex features directly exposed to that like the shoulder, nose bridge, cheek etc will have little to no shading and have highlights instead

concave feature such as eyesockets will have a slight shadow to show depth
