The Empress of Salt and Fortune by Nghi Vo

Rating: ♀ ♀ ♀ ♀ 1/2

It’s not often I describe a book as beautiful but, dammit, The Empress of Salt and Fortune was as gorgeous in its telling as it was lush in its setting.

"I liked it. You’d enjoy it if you like funny stories about rabbits, pixies and the tooth fairy. I think it would be good for children in Year 1 and Year 2."

My full 🌟🌟🌟review of Ariele Sieling's "Tentacles and Teeth" is up. https://t.co/m48Odl7Mqn

I enjoy creature features but I wanted more depth to the human characters that I'm supposed to want to survive.

“This readaloud is full of hilarious moments...It also carries some heartwarming lessons: sometimes the gesture is more important than the outcome, and most things are better shared with friends.” – The Bulletin (BCCB) on THE PERFECT BIRTHDAY RECIPE

This rich girl/poor girl, second chance f/f romance novella might not be long, but it packs a real punch! 40+ leads, single mom. at https://t.co/YevflZhBbd

Ms. Suter leaves no stone unturned as we learn about the murderer, his upbringing, and the life choices (or lack there of due to societal constraints) that drove him to his evil acts. https://t.co/ZxLwUc68dO

My confusion with the approach that I should take towards the foot-soldiers of the begging industry still remains!

We live in a land where saints and devout and people who have abandoned everything earthly live on alms by begging. I am of course not including here the manipulative Brahmins who squeeze and coerce in the name of begging.

I am confused about beggars. Whether to give alms or ignore beggars? It is true that if you give alms to one beggar, many would flock towards you. How do you tackle the rest? How do you select whom to give alms?
