YW! A different thing I used to do was basically the way I do digital paintings now but with more work LOL, by separating the "lines" (the ink) from the bg, and painting under as well as overlays on top. This is three inkwash paintings compiled together - foreground, middle & bg.

Man, I love a good intentional tangent. No blurring in the foreground. You can make out the strings on the cello.

So, I'm not finding much evidence of Vermeer playing with depth of field blurring ahead of camera technology.

It was a pretty challenging work since it's my first time doing such a detailed commission with two characters, but it was a really fun one 😁
