-They both can morph into anyone
-They both have extraterrestrial origins

A wee bit more critical of the middle children.

A lot of the 'eh' ones lack unique shapes or personalities to set them apart from their 1st and final forms. They just kinda feel like: "We gotta have a middle form. Just stop the slider 2/3rds of the way in the Animorphs program."
