This illustration was made as a sort of practice of strong contrast, and also darker ambiance as well.

Why not. I have a good subject for comparison.
Aside from more obvious things (like poor Mary losing any hint of a chest), I notice I've gotten more comfortable using more contrasting values, while I used to be pretty anal about keeping values relatively close and even.

This scene turned out great in colour! I'm very pleased with the warmth in this intimate moment between two characters in the story of . The violent/cyan/cool hues brings balance & contrast to the dominating warm tones of burnt sienna/yellow ochre - a good start! 8-)
