Day 6 of the #Saltaire Living Advent Calendar. The wonderful window at 8 Amelia St may have been influenced by #TitusSalt Jnr’s trips to Egypt & the Holy Land. 150yrs ago his magic lantern slideshow of his travels entertained the village in Victoria Hall. #ChristmasIsComing
150yrs ago #TitusSalt was handed the list of the 2,296 subscribers of his portrait plus the finished article by #Stafford artist J P Knight RA, who also painted for Queen Victoria’s royal collection. It’s not known whether Titus sent #ThankYouLetters https://t.co/w8aJkE0lRv
#TitusSalt had a #bandstand built in his 1871 #Saltaire park & would be delighted that live music was still entertaining the crowds during the #SaltaireFestival, the annual event first staged in 2003 to commemorate 150yrs of his model village & his birthday, of course! https://t.co/B53TJvuMPR
The scale CCS needs to achieve is staggering.
2018 total global CO2 = 37.1 Gigatonnes (GT)
2018 total oil produced = 4.47 GT
So capturing just 20% of C02 needs industry x1.7 capacity of oil industry, which took 150yrs to reach current scale.
And CCS is just in field trials...
The #Wesleyan Chapel built with £50 on land from #TitusSalt 150yrs ago, replaced 1972 by the #Saltaire #Methodist Church. Celebrating Xmas 2018 #MerrilyOnHigh
