The Vaquita is a dying species of porpoise confined to the northern gulf of California, Mexico. Due to bycatch in gillnets, their population has declined from around 600 individuals in 1997 to ONLY 10 INDIVIDUALS as of 2022.
A hilarious meme 😆 that also highlights an incredibly important, and worrying subject, #bycatch 💔

The deep abysses of Orbem Norvis house many strange and often wondrous, as well as terrifying organisms. Most frequently encountered as either bycatch by the local sapients or ocassionally being washed ashore, they inspire fear and curiousity as much as they inspire tall—

Did you also cringe for a short moment? This powerful and challenging piece called ‘Bycatch’ by Steven Stahlberg is “an allegory of what we're doing to the oceans”. Heartwrenching, right?

Throwback to my three illos on the topic of bycatch 🎣🦈🪶 The unseen additional victims of our food choices, collateral damage on top of the bodies on our plates 🍣🐋🥢
Every year an estimated 300k+ cetaceans, 400k+ seabirds, and 50M+ sharks die in fishing nets globally 🐧🐬🐟

The great hammerhead is the largest hammerhead shark. It’s found worldwide but is critically endangered due to overfishing and accidental bycatch. #SundayFishSketch
In another angle on this, we often use euphemistic language to discuss environmental problems. This cartoon by @CartoonRalph make this so clear: Bycatch implies they couldn't avoid them, when often it can be with other methods. #ConsMark2021 https://t.co/f5NwZ662ai

I got a little sidetracked with reading ZS fics. particularly merman AU fics. This is ispired by CharlieNozaki’s masterpiece [Deep]. Currently, I am reading @LibbyLune‘s [Bycatch]. 私が作ったこの絵が気に入ってくれるといいのですが ☺️♥️🧜🏻♂️🧜🏻♂️
A great overview of ‘Moth Trap Intruders’ from @Danasawus 💡 Thanks for mentioning us & spreading the love for #CarrionBeetles 🙌

It’s good to see posts dedicated to fish as individual sentient beings - they’re regularly left out of animal rights advocacy.
Admittedly I’m guilty of missing fish out of convos I’ve had (& work I’ve made) about bycatch and the ocean.
Fish feel pain and deserve our respect! 🌊
I created these illustrations for @melissa_cronin for her work on mobulid ray conservation. The work included paintings of all ten species plus bycatch and release digital drawings.

🆘Every year hundreds of thousands of #seabirds die as bycatch in fishing gear.
BirdLife is joining the call to reduce this by enforcing mitigation measures through observer coverage to provide scientifically valid data for #tuna stock management 🎣

I'm glad to hear them talking about the top threat to sharks worldwide, which is fishing pressure!
Bycatch (accidental capture while fishing which often kills them) is the biggest threat! Finning, & recreational fishing also contribute! #MonsterMako #SharkWeek
