Edestus

Similar to megalodon its only known from teeth as it is a cartilaginous fish, it belongs to a family known by their bizarre "tooth-whorls"

ALT: it was believed to have vertically thrashed its prey in order to wound it, but this has been put into question more recently

Edestus itself is known only from jaw bones thus far, but these jaws have a unique set up. Only a single row of pointed, serrated teeth lie in each jaw; right down the middle. This arrangement has long puzzled scientists, but studies on the wear patterns of the teeth....
