Today, May 12, is the birthday of artist and writer #EdwardLear. It's also #NationalLimerickDay! 'The New Vestments,' is a poem in which a man makes an outfit out of odd things, including cabbage leaves, pancakes, biscuits, and a loaf of bread for a hat! https://t.co/4jzs5vWItk
Lithographs by #EdwardLear from #JohnGould's 'Birds of Europe', a large-scale work on European bird-life published in five volumes between 1832-1837. Gould wrote the text & it was illustrated with 448 lavish plates, 68 of these by Lear.
Now in @RuskinToday's Ruskin Collection.

The Owl and the Pussy-cat went to sea
In a beautiful pea-green boat,
They took some honey, and plenty of money,
Wrapped up in a five-pound note.

@Wenger13 @MindyAlyseWeiss Love Walrus and I also love the Owl and the Pussycat, which was later turned into several beautifully illustrated books. All of my moon illustrations stem from the Owl and Pussycat and The Cow Jumped Over the Moon. #moon #edwardlear @jackikellum #PB #illustrationart #amwriting

One of eight Lears in our new catalogue, this watercolour of a King Vulture was drawn from life at the Surrey Zoological Gardens in April 1832. The Gardens were set up by Edward Cross at Walworth Manor in Kennington, London in 1829 #edwardlear #vulture #ornithology #birds
