This is Mr and Mrs Thomas Hallett (and their dog), supposedly on their wedding day, but I think they are just too well colour coordinated. I think Gainsborough may have used a bit of artistic licence here.

I love this Gainsborough. I always think of my sister & me —he painted his daughters, Mary & Margaret. Much has been said about the symbolic gesture of the youngest reaching for the butterfly & life itself, but it’s lovely to see this masterly work as a father’s love, too ✨

Since I drew Tifa recently, I also wanted to draw Aerith Gainsborough. Drawing Aerith turned out to be more challenging because of her hairstyle and more detailed dress but overall I’m pretty satisfied with the result.
