Sacred & Profane Love (c1514) is a beautiful placid work. He had moved on from Giorgione’s influence in painting style but kept his mystery & magic. The Three Ages of Man (c1512) & the ‘Gypsy’ Madonna (c1511) carry the same mood.
I love the #stories surrounding art. #Sargent’s ‘scandalous’ portrait of Mme. Gautreau, he had to change the strap & the name to Mme X. Did #Sickert’s Ripper painting mean he was the serial killer? One of my favs continues to defy interpretation, #Giorgione’s La Tempesta #vss365
While in Venice, I finally got to visit #GalleriedellAccademia to view #Giorgione’s La Tempesta. This painting provokes heated debate among art historians. I studied it closely for a paper but nothing prepared me for the #euphoria of finally seeing it in the ‘flesh’ #vss365 😍
