in 1887, the American archaeologist Carl Blegen was born. As professor at the University of Cincinnati, Blegen led excavations at Hisarlik (Troy) from 1932-1938. As of 1939, Blegen was active in Messenia where he uncovered a large Mycenaean structure dubbed ‘Nestor’s palace’
