The year in view! 2023 was fairly productive for me, with some interesting experimentation with some subtle influences. Nearing the end, I think there was a couple of surprises that's going to make next year fairly exciting.

Yu Yu Hakusho is one of my biggest influences. Didn’t watch the anime, but I read the manga from cover to cover countless times. The ending was beautiful. And I love the friendship between Hiei & Kurama.

Yoshihiro Togashi is just too brilliant, I accept his inconsistency XD

Comic books and anime were a big influence:

The Invisibles (Grant Morrison) is about a character referred to as “The One” whose destiny is to free humanity.

And the Wachowskis themselves cited animes Akira (1988) and Ninja Scroll (1993) as major influences.

Loved Creed III and all the anime influences. Just had to draw something inspired by and his excellent direction. Couldn’t decide which one i liked better so I’m posting both.

My take on Hideaki Anno’s period of depression that lead to Eva is that it was a perfect psychological storm just as its end product is of thematic influences. IMO it was a mix of unrequited love, unresolved childhood trauma, the failure of a pet project and personal shame.
