This day in 1812: the USS Constitution soundly defeated the HMS Guerriere, earning the nickname "Old Ironsides." It was 1 of the first American victories of the war & very significant to the public. The Constitution is still afloat today & is the oldest naval vessel in the world.
@TelepathicBunny challenged me to make a custom figure of his character, IRONSIDES. I took a crack at it, and came up with a fun little toy.
Join @bostonNHP, @USSConstitution, and the Museum this Saturday, July 17 from 6-8:30pm for the "Charlestown Navy Yard Summer Concert Series," featuring Hallelujah the Hills! This free concert will be held in the Navy Yard next to "Old Ironsides."
#OTD 206 years ago, #USSConstitution engaged and defeated #HMSGuerriere and earned her nickname #Ironsides. One of our crew members saw a cannonball hit her, make a dent in her side, then fall into the sea. He then cried out, "Huzzah! Her sides are made of iron!" @USSConstMuseum
