Every anime with a cross counter is almost always an Ashita No Joe reference.... That was Joe's signature move.

It might be a Naruto reference in the movie.
But in Naruto it's most likely a reference to Ashita No Joe.

I have a similar attachment to the manga Ashita no Joe. It is an old boxing manga and it was popular in Japan, but didn’t catch attention in America.

The art is from 2017 -- but here is Joe.
He's kind of a butt (mostly coyote, Borzoi, and other stuff), but he's also a bit of an unstable personality due to brain damage caused by a bear attack as a pup.

Big Joe (full name 'Joe Rikiishi' in JP) in Xenogears is named after Joe Yabuki and Touru Rikiishi of Ashita no Joe. He even has a striking resemblance to the latter.
His English name is 'Joey Balboa', a reference to a different iconic boxer.
