On this day 100 years ago L&NER A1 1472 was completed at Doncaster Works. 1472 would enter service 17 days later on the 24th but not before being displayed at Marylebone.
100 years later Flying Scotsman stands as the most famous steam engine of all time.

Wonderful little lad at the station. Half pug, half chihuahua? Who knows but he’s great - 2:50pm Marylebone Station
Eighteenth-century al fresco drinkers at the pleasingly named Queen’s Head and Artichoke, a popular inn and tea garden in Marylebone on the site of the present-day Regent’s Park. ☕️
Just posted our recording of Henry Spicer's 1849 comic melodrama "The Witch-Wife; a Tale of Malkin Tower" @librivox. This was a starring vehicle for Anna Cora Mowatt at the Marylebone Theatre in London. https://t.co/EVxCHYWhZ1
New pictures have just been released, showing the inside and outside of the property at Marylebone in Westminster, where police last night thwarted what is already being called the Cato Street conspiracy, a plot to murder Lord Liverpool's Cabinet.
And here's another #charlesdickens find. This one features Victorian comedian #robertkeeley as Toby Veck in an 1845 production of "The Chimes" at the Adelphi. Mr. and Mrs. Keeley were the first big name stars Walter Watts signed to play at the Marylebone.
Here is a better inadvertent #charlesdickens find - beloved husband and wife comedy team, the Keeleys, starring in an adaptation of Dickens' Christmas story "The Battle of Life" at the #LyceumTheatre in 1846. Mowatt later worked with the Keeleys at the Marylebone and the Olympic.
This “created” theatrical poster was purely for fun. I don’t think Mowatt ever played Titania. I’m researching the Christmas pantomimes of 1849. The one at the Marylebone had a distinctly “fairy” theme. Was Mowatt the writer’s muse?
Leo & Roy 2019, 160x120 cm. Here’s a few detail shots in progress & the portrait at my recent exhibition Queer Portraits @DN_Brixton. It’s also in my book of the same name. If you missed it last year, it’ll be at Thompson’s Marylebone soon #portrait #LGBTQ #couple #doubleportrait
And we left signed copies of #LegendOfKevin and #KevinsGreatEscape at @Dauntbooks in Marylebone.
