Gimmighoul is Pokemon's take on the classic "Mimic" monster of fantasy adventures where a monster disguises itself as treasure. This is actually one of my favorite fantasy monsters of all time, but Pokemon has already had several takes on that trope that fit their lore way better

As juveniles, these fish look strikingly similar to the Red Stripe Angelfish (thus the name "Mimic"), but as they age, the stripes and extra colors fade away.
