Starraker, a late 70s study for a heavy SSTO. it was to both take off and land horizontally, employing turboramjets to reach over Mach 5 before boosting into low orbit with rockets. a lack of requirement and the emergence of less ambitious projects contributed to its cancellation
It will never not annoy me that the wrong X-33 was chosen. The Rockwell proposal would have been more easily developed, constructed, and flown. The eventual RLV SSTO would have been feasible as well.

The entire payload bay is a prop tank and a 5.2 meter diameter payload bay is on the side. Using 17 engines it can get 30-50 tons to LEO with 600+m^3 of volume. Can use a Falcon 1 upper stage as a kick stage. Thanks to @StarshipFairing for inspiration.

Japan had its own development program for a combined cycle turbojet + ramjet to reach Mach 6. They used liquid hydrogen that cooled incoming air, then ran through the turbine blades. For use on a TSTO/SSTO.
