I tend to make them darker or lighter, depending on skintone and how "fresh" the scars would be. I also like to take into consideration what caused the scars, to come up with interesting shapes: was it a super sharp blade? Something rougher/more jagged? Or landing on something?

I often see Chris Bachalo's art style compared to Manga. I kinda see why. There are definitely similarities in the way he draws eyes, but 1 Major difference is Chris doesn't use hard angles, like the nose or sharp chin you see in Japan.
