X-20 Dyna-Soar, a 60s Boeing spaceplane project. boosted to high altitude aboard a Titan rocket, its aerodynamic profile would have allowed it to 'skip' off of the atmosphere to maneuver. this was promising for reconnaissance, orbital rendezvous, or even anti-satellite roles.

"World of 2001" Orbiter mod

"Airlines wanted an airplane that could reject a takeoff or return to base at any point, not a flame-belching vertical-takeoff behemoth that needed to get supersonic before it was possible to abort and return to land."

Meet the Consolidated PAS-12 Warbird. Known as "Void Terrors" by the Igu due to their effectiveness in destroying corvettes and transport ships. These are tiltrotor fusion-powered spaceplanes equipped with 4 machine guns and a missile bay that can be added under the craft.

What role does the Japanese space program have in It is barely mentioned.

My guesses:
- HOPE spaceplane like Polaris
- A space station (India joined Japan in 1986)
- Moon base (China had one in 1987)
- Mars probes

There are themes about said socialism and how to move beyond your capitalist tendencies, space, and anything regarding my own personal feelings and anxieties, but also a lot of stuff regarding robot people, hot wolf dudes, railguns, pencil towers, and idiot spaceplanes with teeth

From the people who brought you the Space Shuttle - Rockwell International proposed the massive Star-Raker spaceplane in 1979. All the numbers were crunched and Rockwell thought it would work... but imagine the cost.

I've had a relatively-productive few weeks, though with a bit of a "planets-and-spaceplanes" theme :)

Here's a cutaway diagram from ULA of the Atlas 5 rocket, which is flying in the "501" configuration for today's mission, without any strap-on solid rocket boosters.

Liftoff with the X-37B spaceplane is set for 9:14am EDT (1314 GMT), 30 minutes from now. https://t.co/1oomiQJMsH

The Buran/Energia project is one of the most fascinating projects of the soviet space race, alongside the also ill-fated N1 moon rocket.

It started it's life during the 1950's as a project to launch a small spaceplane on top of a supersonic purpose-built plane.
