David Mason and Alfred Noyes died on this day, so here's a pair of covers from each (Artist: Jim Steranko, Frank Frazetta, Steele Savage and Brian Wildsmith):
Potrei dirti che Tradd Moore è riuscito a rivedere e interiorizzare in chiave moderna certe grandi influenze del passato (Jack Kirby e Jim Steranko su tutti), ma sarebbe in parte ingiusto, visto che il suo è uno stile molto più ricercato di quanto potrebbe sembrare.
Today in cheap comic finds: Steranko’s History of Comics part 1 👀
In 1968 Steranko was busy with 16 comics, defining Nick Fury, Agent of SHIELD, and giving X-Men their iconic and best logo while having a cup of coffee on the title.
Jim Steranko’s 1973 membership poster for FOOM, the official Marvel Comics fan club.
Somehow I acquired a copy of this back in the day; I have no idea how, since FOOM was too expensive for me to join. Pinned to my bedroom wall, it was the first & last thing I saw every day.
Kirk, Spock & McCoy: Jim Steranko’s original painted cover for 1978’s Star Trek-featuring Mediascene #31.
…que mataría de envidia a los mismísimos Crepax y Steranko (no sé si me equivoco, pero siempre vi un toque Crepax en ella). La descubrí en INSECTO (interesante juego de palabras) y fue obligado ir hacia atrás y hacia delante.
Announcing our next Tales From The Road collab: La Sombra: Agent of LUCHA, a story of heroes, villains, & family co-created by @AndradeElIdolo w/ art by Hills, Gorman, & Bascle.
The book features a Steranko-inspired cover by @jGonzoArt and a stunning variant by @MelColemanArt.
Too busy today, here are four badass comic covers by four titans of Comics, Milgrom, JRJr, Steranko and Cowan.
New GET GRAPHIC! Influenced in part by Jim Steranko, G.H.O.S.T. Agents honors 60s spy adventures with its own mind-bending action opus. Troy-Jeffrey Allen Interviews artist Adam Lemnah about his process: https://t.co/goa7GF9H7S
@iamsteranko @ButlerArt Since there'll be a signing event, you know what I'm tempted to bring along and ask you to sign — for a *SECOND* time? My copy of your Steranko Portfolio One, which you signed for me the first time 52 years ago at my first ever comic book convention when I was 15!
Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D (Oct1968) #5
Scorpio returns, impersonating Nick Fury and replacing Nick’s LMD with Fury himself in "What Ever Happened to Scorpio?" Script-Penciler Jim Steranko, Inker John Tartaglione: A crazy, complex plot, that epitomizes Steranko’s run. 4.5/5
Happy 83rd birthday to @iamsteranko — who at my first ever comic book convention in 1970 when I was 15 — the same con where I prepaid for a copy of his then shortly-to-be-released History of Comics — autographed a copy of the Steranko Portfolio for me. Have a great day, man!
