Yet another paper of our @AnatRecord Special Issue "The dawn of an Era: Comparative and functional anatomy of Triassic tetrapods" was published today. This time, @tito_aureliano et al. assess the origin of sauropodomorph air sacs. Submissions still open!

To understand how their neck's evolve I'll have to do a full diagram of their skeleton's evolution past the stage shown here! Long answer short similar to how tetrapods evolved a neck but not quite word for word. https://t.co/DGocoo8d7z
🦕This seems a very cool work from Demuth et al. "Modern three-dimensional digital methods for studying locomotor biomechanics in tetrapods"

Cutting through the ocean's surface, Aestulback Drifters have cut out a niche for themselves. Despite their heavy appearance, these Pterosaurs are surface water predators. Ramming right into aquatic tetrapods trying to breath and eating them alive.

ICYMI: The new fish relative #Qikiqtania debuted this week, and despite being cousin to tetrapods, was thoroughly aquatic. You could say it was a bit of a backslider. https://t.co/PWsckCtJv0

The first stream of @PalaeoVsRacism just happened. Thank you to inviting me to be a part of it.
This is a sketch I did live during the stream. The topic was the fossils of the Santana Group of Brazil. So here are roughs of Tupandactylus, Ubirajara and Tetrapodophis #SantanaArt
In a simple art style, next to a freshwater lake (although I didn't do it in art) are Cratoavis Cearensis in a healthy game for whoever stays with the little Tetrapodophis.

In particular, the scene showing the evolution of vertebrates is especially well done. The screen transitions smoothly and succinctly illustrate the major evolutionary steps from jawless fish to the ancestors of tetrapods. It’s a great example of animation’s endless potential.

Going off a tangent here, there was a time where I used to put external gills on early tetrapodomorphs, now that I learned that the otic notches on their skull was possibly a structure to facilitate spiracles, now I'm not as convinced to put external gills anymore https://t.co/vozdFZWCWL
