Day 23 of #ArtAdventCalendar is Wiwaxia! This is a handprinted #linocut Wiwaxia, a half billion year old soft-bodied animal covered in scales & spines. These animals lived in the early and middle Cambrian period & fossils are found worldwide, including in Canada's Burgess Shale.
For the #SciArtSeptember prompt “scaled” - This is a handprinted Wiwaxia, a half billion year old soft-bodied animal covered in scales and spines. These animals lived in the early and middle Cambrian period and fossils are found worldwide, including in Canada's Burgess Shale.
A rock/flying fakemon line based on Wiwaxia, Aegirocassis, and blimps (featuring one bonus fossil)! They're some of my fave prehistoric creatures so it was a ton of fun making them into pokemon 🦐
Cambrian Oddities Series 1: Aegirocassis benmoulai (top) and Wiwaxia corrugata (bottom), 2022, Ink on Heavyweight Sketchbook Paper
The two final Cambrian critters to top off the Cambrian Oddities Sticker Series 1!
You can find my colourful collaged Wiwixia prints at the @romtoronto shop if you go visit their new Dawn of Life exhibit! This is a handprinted Wiwaxia, a half billion year old soft-bodied animal covered in scales and spines. These animals lived in the early and middle Cambrian
Some detail shots. The image includes the radiodont Peytoia, trilobites Elrathia and Asaphiscus, mollusc(?) Wiwaxia and many other creatures that won't fit the single tweet characters lol. Be sure to check the link below to see all species and the story behind the scene.
(2/3)
I thought I would try a stylized scaly but otherwise unconnected pairing of linocut animals. Ground pangolin and Wiwaxia.
Extant vs extinct https://t.co/Hw9ZGqL73V
Wiwaxia as a mysterious ally of the snail shamans! what's in there? I don't know
Thinking about how Pyukumuku is not only likely a reference to the Sea Bunny cucumber, but possibly also a reference to one of the famous fossilized soft organisms from the legendary Burgess Shale discovery, Wiwaxia Corrugata!
@paperisfood My friends and I (From the miku server!) Made a mascot for our fake company (for a school projecy) last night!! Their name is wiwax and theyre a Wiwaxia (from the pre cambrian wra)
@QEDmostly @BrianBrachiopod @joPhillipsJans1 @Rainbow_Ark @B52Malmet @HayesPope @IAmJohnAles @jaarete1 @Jenniferlayne53 @JRLgdnr @traderttt9 Wiwaxia lived 505 million years ago in Middle Cambrian tropical oceans.
#Wiwaxiawednesday
made some pokemon based on Wiwaxia and Aegirocassis (the best fossils, don't @ me)
Wiwaxia and Orthrozanclus #wiwaxia #orthrozanclus #art #furry #anthro #digitalart
On this #Wiwaxiawednesday I find myself spending the night in Moline Kansas. It's been a day of collecting Permian marine fossils in SE Kansas. Yes, looking for very rare trilobites ... lots of critters but no biters so far. As much #SocialDistancing as you could ever want.
Minty green spines on this linocut Wiwaxia with collaged washi papers. I still think the Cambrian creature would make an excellent bike helmet design.⠀
