キリンは１種９亜種と考えられていましたが、遺伝子を解析すると４種に分けられるそうです。キタキリンはコルドファンキリン、ヌビアキリン、ロスチャイルドキリン、ナイジェリアキリンが含まれ、ミナミキリンはケープキリン、アンゴラキリンが含まれます。
