Also known as: Albertus the daft
🕯️#OTD in #History 15 Nov 1280, #AlbertusMagnus, later #SaintAlbertTheGreat, passed away.
A great philosopher and theologian of the Middle Ages, #SaintThomasAquinas was among his students. He is one of the #Catholic Church's 37 Doctors of the Church.
🕯️Today is his Feast Day.
A very weird but interesting find.
In 1770, during excavations in the Court Chapel in The Hague, this headdress was found. It belonged to Jacoba, Countess of Holland, Zeeland and Hainaut (1401-1436).
Drawn c. 1775 by Albertus Frese (the Younger).

African Rock Python
-
The generic name, Python, is a Greek word referring to the enormous serpent at Delphi slain by Apollo in Greek mythology. The specific name, sebae, is a latinization of the surname of Dutch zoologist, Albertus Seba.
One of the most famous Cabinet of Curiosities was that of Dutch apothecary Albertus Seba, who spent decades collecting specimens. He then hired artists to make illustrations of it that were published in his book 'Locupletissimi rerum naturalium thesauri.' https://t.co/RWjkQYxevH
Albertus Seba’s "Thesaurus" (1734) includes many real creatures and some fantastic beasts, such as this two-headed deer and the infamous Hamburg Hydra (the “specimen” was later recognized by Carl Linneaus as being a fake sewn together from snake and weasel parts). #SpookySeason
