Andrewsarchus mongoliensis trotting into day 10 of #marchofthemammals2023!
Day 11: Andrewsarchus mongoliensis
This massive carnivore from the Eocene was actually an even-toed ungulate, more closely related to modern hippos and the fearsome, extinct entelodonts than any group of carnivoran mammals!
#marchofthemammals2023 #paleoart
Ahh portfolio day again. I’m AJ, a digital paleo-sculptor - I specialise on mammalian anatomy but I’ll often give other taxa a shot too. Just a few examples of my work below:
(Dinofelis aronoki, Teratophoneus curriei, Andrewsarchus and Homotherium serum)
The answer to yesterday's What is it Wednesday is Andrewsarchus! Thank you for everyone's participation! 🥩

I spent years trying to figure out evolution that would lead to oversized wolves, but then I remembered that Andrewsarchus exists, so now Wargs on Constellation Draco pretty much fill the role of what we assumed to be giant wolves.
A sheep in wolf's clothing if you will 🐺🐏
What is your favorite dino in ark?? I’m really partial to Yuty’s and Andrewsarchus (here’s a drawing I did of one of my tribes mutated babies, her name is Ocean Bacon)

I dug up some old sketches from a file I haven't touched in years, and I'm kinda revisiting the concept of 'fantasy humanoids and their animal rides'
Been playing with rhinos that evolved into unicorns, hell pigs, andrewsarchus as wargs, and giant elks
and Indricotheres too
Roaring Andrewsarchus for @Pernilleoe’s Monday Art Challenge on Instagram.
What a majestic sight it would have been to see this animal alive with its jaws open.
New #paleoart at #Patreon: Tyrannosaurus vs. polar bear vs. Andrewsarchus vs. @Gizz47 vs. Beau the greyhound. Who wins? Depends on what the competition is. Full-res and discussion here: https://t.co/RvUyIF6XxX. Oh, and I guess this'll work for #FossilFriday, too!
“The Hippo Wolf”
An andrewsarchus yawns displaying its impressive jaws scaring two Rhynchaeites, early relatives of ibis, out of the vegetation
a paleontologist found fur samples of andrewsarchus and telicomys gigantissimus trapped inside a piece of amber. these samples were analyzed and used in this depiction of the two extinct species in what is presumably their true pelt patterns and colors.
@vintagecoyote
here's a rare fully rendered Dark Beast Ganon from my Zelda AU.... he's an Andrewsarchus bc i'm a simp for prehistoric megafauna <3
Andrewsarchus Mongoliensis (and a juvenile lol), considered the largest meat eating mammal that we know of
@Saberspark @HappyHarryToons A boar wolf? Oh, you mean an Andrewsarchus!
Yeah, these existed btw.
#Faketober2021 Day 5: Lycanthrope
Given "Lycanthropy" is also a clinical term for believing that you're a wolf I wanted to do an hippo! You may ask why. Hippos are with whales closest relatives to the Andrewsarchus. I couldn't resist to combine these two monsters together!
