I’ve wanted to remake the original drawing for some time as I thought I didn’t give my all and didn’t look as good as a I wanted to be. Now, for the series’ 15th anniversary, here’s Bessie — this time with Happy! (I modeled Happy’s look on Dog 😅) https://t.co/s15ilGrXZM

Bessie MacNicol.

MacNicol was a Scottish artist whose work was well known in her lifetime. She died aged 34 while pregnant and her husband's second wife destroyed or sold many of her paintings. The ones which survive attest to her talent.

Happy from Bessie Downes 🌷🌻🌺

Bessie Downes made a unique record of plant species found along the Sefton coast.

Her beautiful watercolour illustrations provide us with a snapshot of the botany of our coast from the 1890s & into the early 20th century.
