2/3 Vincente Carducho (1576-1638) was an Italian painter who was commissioned by Philip IV of Spain to create a series of paintings to commemorate the founding of the Carthusian Order of monks. This painting of St Anthelm being made bishop is from this cycle.
4 May 1535: William Exmew #Carthusian is pressed by Thomas Cromwell's agent Thomas Bedyll #otd to acknowledge the King's Supremacy just as three #Carthusian priors were going to their deaths.
Exmew was hanged with two of his confrères on 19 June.
