Painted at the start of the series, didn't think I'd manage painting daily! From before I had a good black, and I didn't allow myself to fix mistakes or add more colour. Discovered in 1992, from Vietnam and Laos

Dogwood Long Snout Weevil
No written description, and the only photos were from someone unsure about the ID. So, this is my version. Their survival is linked to the St Helena Dogwood.

0 2

Blue-crowned Laughingthrush
Maybe 320 left in the wild. Trapping for pet trade and habitat destruction are their biggest threats. There is no real protection for them in the wild.

0 3

Pink Velvet Worm
Declared extinct in 1996, rediscovered in 2016 I think? It shoots sticky string from its head to immobilize prey. Deforestation is the main threat

Butterfly Loach
There are more than one fish called a Butterfly Loach, these are Sewellia breviventralis. A small bottom fish at risk because of over fishing and habitat loss.

1 2

Talaud Bear Cuscus
Not a bear, they are actually a marsupial. Their biggest threats are hunting which is quite bad unfortunately, and loss of habitat.

1 4

Siau Scops Owl
Only one found in 1866, but not classified as extinct. Deforestation is the biggest threat to them and most of the forest on Siau Island has been felled.

1 2

Bornean Orangutan
They are the largest tree-dwelling animal and 2nd largest ape (biggest Orangutan). Deforestation for palm oil production and hunting are their biggest threats.

2 5

Miss Waldron's Red Colobus
Possibly extinct but some may be left in Côte d'Ivoire. Humans hunting them & habitat loss are their threats

Roti Snake-necked Turtle
Yes, they look almost like a cartoon - new favourite turtle! Biggest threat is collection for pet trade. Described as ecologically and commercially extinct.

0 2

Indian Swellshark
They inflate their bodies to ward off predators and only get to about 14-20" long. Over the past 45 years thought to have an almost 99% population decrease.

0 3

Angel Island Mouse

Possibly extinct, last seen in 1991. Threats are other mice and rats introduced to the islands, and feral cats.

0 2

Nelson's Small-eared Shrew

Discovered in 1894, not seen again until 2003-04! They live in a cloud forest on a volcano. Colour described differently than most pictures showed so...?

0 3

Leadbeater's Possum

Also called the Fairy Possum!
Their biggest threats are logging, fires, and cats. While related to gliders, they don't have that ability.

Hotwater Physa
80 Days - Day 60...only 20 days left in the mini series.

These snails have adorable faces. They live in Liard River Hotsprings. They also are known for being "left-handed"
