Vanara are a race of forest dwelling ape- like people who help Rama defeat Ravana, the rakshasa I covered earlier. Vanara may be similar to other simian fairies such as the Caucasus Almas, Australian Yowie, New Zealander Maero, the Guadalcanal Giants & Malaysian Hantu Jarang Gigi

USS Sterett, a little hero on both the Atlantic and the Pacific, veteran of the battle of Guadalcanal and Vela Gulf, suffered from Kamikaze but survived. In her stories I see her courage and how she grew into a fighter. Nicknamed HMS Steadfast, “I hope we would prove worthy.”

1939, the film adaptation of the novel "Gone with the Wind" premiered in Atlanta. Author Margaret Mitchell later christened USS Atlanta (CL-51) in 1941. After the light cruiser was lost during the Naval Battle of Guadalcanal, Mitchell christened USS Atlanta (CL-104) in 1944.

Today's the 78th anniversary of the 2nd Naval Battle of Guadalcanal. My preferred trivia has always been this scene, many versions of which exist, here retold by the late Robert Leckie. Probably not 100% accurate, but you can't deny its entertainment value!

On in 1943, a daring night torpedo plane attack disabled the freshly repaired USS Chicago. The parting blow of the Guadalcanal Campaign helped to mask the Japanese retreat from the "Starvation Island". The Chicago was abandoned the next day after more damage.
