Ijiraq, ijirait for plural, are shape-shifters in Inuit religion. They have red eyes, vertical mouths and eyes, invisible, and can transform into any animal they want. Children can be kidnapped by ijirait and lost when abandoned.

In Inuit mythology an Ijiraq is a shape-shifting creature that is said to kidnap children, hide them away and abandon them. The inuksugaq (or inukshuk) landmarks allow these children to find their way back if they can convince the Ijiraq to let them go.

Unsettling creatures to the north. The Ijiraq is said to be a protector of the wilds but I think its just really creepy. It wears the skull and bones of elk and caribou but no one knows what its actual face looks like.
