This is the full Mer-Nix i did for 's birthday stream. 🐚💜 🌊 I used a beta fish's fins and colors for reference, and i think it came out pretty stellar for my first time drawing merfolk. 🤗 (The scales are a free brush pattern from CSP assets. Very helpful. 👍)

Bunyip is an Australian Aboriginal man- eating monster that inhabits swamps & lagoons. It has a round head, an elongated neck & a body resembling an ox, hippo, manatee or human. Particularly when it resembles a human it is similar to merfolk.

The Mermaid Wife is a story from the Shetland islands about a man who stumbled upon a group of merfolk. When they saw the man approach, they threw on their clothes & transformed into seal-like creatures. But, the man was able to grab one outfit!

This is my take on the mythos of the Selkie. A type of Merfolk. I believe the stories are native to the British Isles and tell of men and women of the sea who wear the skins of seals and removed them like cloaks.

Flick (He/him) seems childish and innocent, but actually is pretty intelligent for a merfolk. He can be quite curious about humans, and will go interact with them, even if other merfolk don't trust them and warn him to stay away he doesn't listen.

Riston is a sly piranha who smiles a lot. He's outgoing, outspoken and gets along with a lot of people. He lost his tail when he was really young and therefore cannot swim as well as other merfolk.
