The "abomasum" is the last chamber and the true stomach of the cattle, because it releases acids and enzymes to truly digest the cud.
This includes the bacteria and archaea that fermented the cud, because the cow also needs to take back the nutrients the microbes consumed!
@Liz_Hand The cool thing, Liz, is my first semester biology students are looking for microbes that make antibiotics from mosses, lichen, and the soil. I call them #APBs (antibiotic producing buddies). It's part of the @TinyEarthNet program. @univpugetsound @ASMicrobiology
'Osborne et al. present new methods and software, allowing for more comprehensive analysis of tree root distribution and plant species' interactions with nutrient patches, other plants, and soil microbes.'

@LizahvdAart Trust me, I wish I was a stick figure! @vexedmuddler made me into a #TardiDoc once, though....
A one minute #MicrobeWhisperer video about the weird things I show students would be beyond awesome. Sigh.
Low quality GIF I generated months ago because I can’t get this out of my head when people describe microbes as cosmopolitan & this seems a good excuse to share it 😂 https://t.co/aCMxVRlzQX
starting this February with a new collection on FND

Adding onto the microbe monster catching idea. Please don't go trying to catch them all.
Meet some of the microbes that will be in my major project film: The Green Hydra and Stentor coeruleus.
I've had a lot of fun making them look like jelly and trying to figure out their forms.

Queen really knows how to bring out my inner smol. And naturally just tugs at that desire to get smaller and smaller and smaller. Turning a demigod into a demicrobe. And she doesn't intend to let go of her prize anytime soon.
