Another big family on day 7 of #marchofthemammals2023, early pantodont Alcidedorbignya inopinata!
Day 8: Alcidedorbignya inopinata
This basal Pantodont lived in the Santa Lucia formation in Bolivia during the early Paleocene, shortly after the Chicxulub Impactor wiped out the majority of large reptiles across the planet.

@KingRexy328 Somewhat recently I drew Bemalambda nansiungensis, an early pantodont from Asia that is among the basalmost pants, even if it is slightly younger than smaller, older pants like Alcidedorbignya. Shows evidence of sexual dimorphism and was probably a competent digger!
🐙For #WorldOctopusDay, four examples by French naturalistt Alcide d'Orbigny.
They're from "Histoire naturelle, générale et particulière des céphalopodes acétabuifères viants, et fossiles" (1835-1848), a book of cephalpods in @BioDivLibrary : https://t.co/0KjMeLv5nw

Alcidedorbignya was much smaller than most other pants, with a body length of only around 25 cm and a weight of 580 g, about the same size as a squirrel. This is a far cry from later pants, with behemoths like Coryphodon reaching 2.5 meters long and 500 kg in weight! 3/13
Featured in The Print Gallery at The Map House this month are the intricate studies by great naturalist and explorer Charles Henry Dessalines d’Orbigny (1806-1876)

For #FindsFriday a favourite sort of wick trimmer. Triangular box halves are sometimes found; also handles to which they belonged. Box half found at Southchurch Hall, Southend; complete example at the Musée d'Orbigny-Bernon, La Rochelle. Images @findsorguk
