In the Orkney Islands, there is a winter demon called the The Nuckelavee. TheMither o' the Sea, keeps hold of it for most of the year, but in winter, the Nuckelavee emerges from the sea, as a ferocious hybrid beast and harbinger of illness, drought and death.

A day off from the book I am working on to play about with some memories of Orkney. I found Stenness particularly powerful, there is an intimacy to it and that charge that runs through you when you touch the stones is very strong... I am promised a sunrise there next time
