For #FossilFriday here are images from our new paper on the ornithomimosaurs that inhabited Mississippi in the Late Cretaceous (~84-85 million years ago).
One of the ways we distinguished the larger- & smaller-bodied species was by using bone histology to track their growth.
The Mapler is a giant ornithomimosaur living on the grasslands and fernfields of the HE, they are mainly bush and tree specialists in these open areas, they can grow 11-13 meters long
Continuing with my reconstructions of dinosaurs that will appear in Jurassic World Dominion, here is Gallimimus bullatus, one of the largest Ornithomimosaurs
Been wondering, if Bahariasaurus is truly a giant noasaur, then wouldn't its anatomy differ from the tiny noasaurs we have? Especially when you look at something like Deinocheirus which was usually interpreted as a giant version of typical ornithomimosaurs.
Idk, I'm no expert.
The hump-backed Ornithomimosaur, Deinocheirus, has received a much-needed remake!
47. I haven’t done an ornithomimosaur in a while for #TheSummerOfTheropods. Here’s #Struthiomimus (“ostrich mimic”), an ornithomimid from the Late Cretaceous Period of North America. Cast from the Rocky Mountain Dinosaur Resource Center.
35. Introducing Arkansas’ State Dinosaur for #TheSummerOfTheropods, #Arkansasarus (“Arkansas lizard”) an ornithomimosaur that lived during the Early Cretaceous. Art by @BrianEngh_Art
@cvburkett @paleochick considering that the ornithomimosaurs were around for over a hundred million years on most if not all of the continents and ranged in size from turkeysize to whatever the hell you might compare Deinocheirus to, i bet there were at some time & place some road runner-y ones.
For the final day of #SciArtTweetStorm these posters is how my way of presenting evolutionary trees started. It is something I really enjoy doing. In here you can see Centrosaurine Ceratopsids, Ornithomimosaurs and Alvarezsaurs, Dromaeosaurs and Wessex Fm #SciArt #paleoart
NEW #DINOSAUR ALERT!! @paleochick just described a new #ornithomimosaur #theropod: #Arkansaurus fridayi! It’s one of the biggest & oldest of its kind in n. America & i got to do the #paleoart. LEARN MORE STUFF HERE: https://t.co/TJeYz4Wzv4
