For my first #sundayfishsketch, say hi to Petrus rupestris, (or the red steenbras,) a relatively large but rare fish belonging to the family of sea breams and porgies. This species is endemic to South Africa but is now unfortunately endangered due to overfishing.
While not classified as endangered, the orange roughy population is rapidly declining due to overfishing. This may be exacerbated by it's long lifespan; they reach maturity at ~20years. #SundayFishSketch
This is an illustration of a #Swordfish (Xiphias gladius).
In the #Mediterranean populations have steeply declined by 70% since the1980s due to #overfishing.
#Mermay Day 1: Chambo (Critically Endangered)
The species is native to Lake Malawi, Lake Malombe, and the Shire River in Africa. It was last seen in the wild from 1992. It is considered to be Possibly Extinct mostly due to overfishing. #EndangeredMermay #Mermay2019
