Good afternyan! The kanji I'm studying today is 午, noon.

This kanji originally represented a kind of pestle for grinding and pounding rice. I believe it came to represent noon because it pointed straight up, thus reminding people of "high noon".

また明日!

Eloise is Julienne's girlfriend. She's a combat surgeon, has a near perfect knowledge of how to sterilize wounds, and is also one of the few people who cottoned onto the fact that Julienne can't easily chew vegetables.

In fact she uses a mortar and pestle to help make it edible

Key in premodern baking is the mortar and pestle, which Baba Yaga uses to ride around in when setting out from her chicken-footed house. Often the task she sets children and herolings to is baking, making her something of a domestic witch.

Baba Yaga appears in many Slavic folk tales. She's an ugly, fierce-looking old witch who flies around in a mortar, wields a pestle, & lives in a forest hut that stands on chicken legs. Depending in the tale, she can be a villain, a helper, or ambiguous.
