Not many vertebrates are known from the Late Triassic Norian stage in Western North America: Shastasaurus (or Shonisaurus) sikkaniensis from the Pardonet formation of British Columbia was the largest marine reptile ever found. Gunakadeit was an odd thalattosaur from Alaska.
Sketch and closeups. I used Scott Hartman’s 2016 Shonisaurus as ref, pterosaurs are quasi Carniadactylus AND THE ECTOPARASITES ARE SPECULATIVE. We don’t have direct evidence that they hosted any, but I figure slower ones might have less invasive barnacle-like creatures on em
New #paleoart to the (public) internet for #FossilFriday: from 2018, the entirety of my rising Shonisaurus popularis scene. The idea is that these animals are hunting cooperatively and corraling squid, hence the leftmost animal swallowing down a tentacley meal.
@skittlezthewulf I hear that you like rock climbing, so you’ll appreciate what the scientists who found the largest marine reptile in history halfway up a mountain in the Canadian wilderness had to endure! After 3 years, the 69-foot-long (nice) Shonisaurus was finally excavated!
Skull details are mostly based from Guanlingsaurus liangae and Shastasaurus pacificus, early I tried to fit these on Shonisaurus but turned out to be more different in many aspects, which was one of the reasons why I dropped the attempt of making it Shoni base as people often do
Bringing this one back for #TriassicWeek
My other Triassic stuff is a bit older
Shringasaurus (Sep 2017)
Shonisaurus (Dec 2017)
Atopodentatus (May 2016)
Coelophysis (October 2014)
A #paleoart salute to ichthyosaurs this #FossilFriday: splendid beasts that I've had an excuse to restore several times recently. Marine reptiles are really fun to draw and these have been a blast to work on. Here's Temnodontosaurus, Ichthyosaurus, Shonisaurus and Leptonectes.
Results from the #paleostream
Irritator, Microcleidus, Actigavialis and Shonisaurus (not dead just feeding)

Here are my #paleostream sketches from today. Microcleidus, Aktiogavialis, and Shonisaurus death pogging
Finally caught my first #paleostream! I only really made it in time to draw a Shonisaurus, but I would love to do more in the future.
For todays #flockingtogether on the #paleostream we did Irritator, FLAT FUCK, hydra aktiogavialis, and screming shonisaurus.
“Mosasaurs or plesiosaurs???” 😤😡
Neither, Shonisaurus supremacy 😎
Overosaurus, Horned Gophers, Outdated Shonisaurus, Chasmosaurus
Shonisaurus sikanniensis was one of the largest ichthyosaurs that ever swam the Triassic seas. This whale-sized marine reptile could reach close to 70ft in length and it's fossils were found here in British Columbia! #paleoart
Okay this is a super fun art meme, I don't cringe as much at my old art but...those ones sure are something lmao
Too lazy to tag this time though lmao
Yutyrannus (Nov 2012, second digital piece)
Baryonyx+Iguanodon (Dec 2012)
Shonisaurus (Jan 2013)
Gorgosaurus (May 2013) https://t.co/JKo1ckQhNx
Shonisaurus was one of the biggest marine reptiles of all time. Ichthyosaurus gave its name to the entire group. Get this two-sticker set in a single sheet, or packs up to five sheets.

@WarrenSm2 @FrostDragonLiz we could make one out of a shonisaurus, its not a dinosaur but its big n squat enough
It’s #WhaleWednesday so here’s a…
Wait a minute. That’s not a whale!
This is a giant ichthyosaur. Ichthyosaurs were the first truly gigantic animals to evolve. The largest skeleton is 21 metres long and belongs to the Triassic species, Shonisaurus sikanniensis.
Just a fucking unsense battle, featuring Spinosaurus and Shonisaurus! #spinosaurus #shonisaurus #battle
Spent the morning reading about maximum body size in marine tetrapods, and how baleen whales achieve their remarkable size because of awesome feeding efficiency. Sorry folks, blue whale-sized marine reptiles are very unlikely: Shonisaurus et al. are likely as big as they got.
