With her drawings broke the scientific molds of the time. In 1705 she published her masterpiece Metamorphosis insectorum Surinamensium, which greatly impressed who drew on Merian's observations for some of his Systema Naturae texts.

Anansi is an Akan West African folktale, the Akan God of Stories,Wisdom, Knowledge, and possibly creation. He often takes the shape of a spider. Anansi stories spread to West Indies, Suriname, SierraLeone and the Netherlands Antilles; also Curaçao, Aruba, and Bonaire.
