"Theropods, including T. rex, had lips that covered their teeth, leaving them looking more like modern Komodo dragons than crocodiles."

New blog post! Can studies of living animal colour constrain the colours of #dinosaurs? Stars big theropods, because that's all my life is now. Lots of relevance to #paleoart, of course. https://t.co/S6Ucmsl7id
Sister Earth's giant apex predator abelisaur of Africa. Roughly the size of T. rex, but with a bite outclassing the tyrant lizard.
They, along with three other giant theropods, form a quartet of giant theropods iconic of this timeline.
Disappointing, when one searches for "paleontologist" in stock images, you largely get pictures of men in cowboy hats or colonial pith helmets, searching for theropods, in a desert.
(disclaimer, very small portion of palaeontologists actually do that)
#Marshosaurus bicentisimus, the forgotten theropod of the Morrison Formation! The Morrison has multiple large theropods, but we also have a more slender, mid-size predator in there that doesn't get a lot of love! #paleoart #dinosaur #theropod #Jurassic
-and elongated metatarsals (middle foot bones), it had long legs that were well-adapted for running! It would've used its speed to hunt small and nimble animals, as well as avoid most of its fellow Morrison Formation theropods, who likely saw it as prey! (2/2)
Art by Palaeotaku!
#paleoart reconstruction of #Herrerasaurus, one of the first large-ish carniovorous dinosaurs! Herrerasaurs sit very near the base of the dinosaur tree, and there has been much debate over whether they're early theropods, basal saurischians, or something else entirely!
Day 6: Bouquet. Protarchaeopteryx, unlike most feathered theropods, actually feasted on plant matter and was at least an omnivore if not a complete herbivore!

Wanted to practise my hand in drawing other theropods, and I had to draw my favourite boy from "The Devils Demons"

I will never stop loving the fact that Speen snoots curved downwards, in a different direction from the back-half of the head. In normie theropods, the snouts simply continue forwards horizontally.
According to a 2020 study on Irritator: "downward angling of approximately 45° of
However, further up the snout, we see something peculiar. Well fit, interlocking teeth as well as a lining of foramina similar to conventional theropods, and reptiles in general. Are there any examples of this that we can see in the modern day? (13/20)
Jinfengopteryx! One of my favorite lil theropods, i gave this lil guy some extravagant feather display.
#paleoart
Hand me your theropods, NOW
(Raptors, Allosaurs, rexes, dragons, throw em at me)
I'll start:
@Philoceratops Therizinosaurs count as theropods, right?
Quickie Alioramus! This guy was rlly fun to do ^^
I should really do more paleoart of non-theropods, but come on, i mean look at this guy theropods are awesome!
Want a signed #paleoart print AND to help save the UK's only gull sanctuary? Head to the @charitybirdaid FB page to bid on my prints: all proceeds go to charity. Starting bids are £5 for each print. Theropods, pterosaurs, plesiosaurs and more up for sale! https://t.co/6jEXZ4VwVM
Many theropods, such as Allosaurus here, are in dire need of revamps! One skin also has been converted to a feathered variant, if you want a fuzzy Allosaurus (bottom skin).
@AGamingBeaver At your service, James!
My commissions are open! Though I do a lot of theropods, I can adapt to any species you need. Posing is my strength, I love making my pieces feel alive. I can also do 2D animation in case you need it!
PM me if you are interested! 😁😁
Ep.7 of @chasmosaurs podcast is here! Jurassic abelisaurs, small, bone-gnawing theropods, & senile Gobihadros in the news; John McLoughlin's Archosauria is our VDA book under discussion; and I interview @camthecowboyman!

@jimmadseni Very recognisable sauropods & theropods, especially with their expressive faces and somewhat exaggerated proportions.
Spectacular environments & clouds/skies, you've got a great understanding of composition, light and colour and know exactly where each brush stroke should go.
