The Thesmophoria was a three-day festival celebrated by the female cult of Demeter and her daughter Persephone, also known as Kore.
Thesmophoria is the ancient festival of Demeter and Persephone, marking the return of Persephone to the Underworld, and held ag the end of the harvest. Celebrated exclusively by women, the festival was one of the few celebrated by all Greeks. #FolkloreThursday

Today would be the first day of the #Thesmophoria in #ancientGreece. It's an annual festival in honour of #Demeter and part of the sacred festival cycle of grain in ancient Greece. It was celebrated around the time that seeds were sown in late autumn. In Athens, it lasted 5 days.
