First commission of 2019! Something a bit different! Friend asked for a fun cartoony drawing for their band's Facebook! Mildly terrifying but overall fun experience!! 😆
It's extremely satisfying. I was, maybe unintentially, developing a bit of a digital style thanks to these new tools at my disposal. This gave me a chance to try expressing adapting anime too to express my love for characters and shows there without copying the style
touch sensitivity when it comes to digital drawings but adobe illustrator had an option that automatically made lines smoother and this MASSIVELY improved the quality of what I could produce in my eyes so I had a play!
Using this newfound like for expressing things through somewhat altered portraits I took a bit of a risky leap (risky probably purely in terms of vulnerability) and had a go at using myself as the subject. Sometimes you can't use metaphors. It's just you.
Hey remember that 20 minute Aizawa i did a while back? Will here's a 10 minute Mic done for the same reason 😂 #MyHeroAcademia
Possibly the oddest commission I've gotten so far 😂 from a fellow anime-watching friend who asked for "Yachi riding a piece of toast in a Seijoh jacket". Hey..I just do what i'm told 😆 it was lots of fun!! #haikyuu
One of the hardest things is sometimes just being okay with drawing badly 😂 just got a "draw a quick sketch of a pro hero right now" prompt and for about 20 minutes' work I think it's got a sort of charming quality to its badness...or that's what I'm telling myself 😉
Following on from this I wondered..if i could bring detail down from a photograph into my own style..could I bring the detail UP from an anime character. I picked Aizawa from MHA as he has quite a distinctive look. Plus I heart him. (Tried him out with a variety of backgrounds!)
I'm currently procrastinating from a pencil commission i have sitting on my table by having a go at my own style of digital cartoon-style portraits. I recently downloaded the adobe illustrator app and used that along with photos and reference.
Have tried a few styles of digital portrait over time. I'm usually limited by the size and quality I'm able to create but since getting my tablet I've been trying more things!
