🇦🇺 October 26th, 1998: "Special" is released as a single in Australia which collects together all four UK bonus tracks on a single CD. The single peaks at #54 on the ARIA charts and stays in the Top 100 for six weeks.
Madonna's #BedtimeStories album is 26 years old today. It's been implied that producer Nellee Hooper sampled the vocal intro of the title track for his remix of "#1 Crush". What do you think? https://t.co/JJi7c0kMwZ
🇬🇧🇪🇺 October 5th, 1998: Garbage release "Special" as the third single from Version 2.0 backed with "13 × Forever", an acoustic version of "Medication" and remixes of "Special" and "Push It" by Brothers in Rhythm and Victor Calderone.
🇬🇧 October 2nd, 1995: @Garbage, is released in the UK on CD, double-LP, cassette + a 7" box set, each vinyl label colour coded to each track "like a box of chocolates". The album debuts at a respectable #12 on the @officialcharts
In Australia, #beautifulgarbage spent a week at #1 and went double-platinum by the end of 2002. Three hit singles, including the gold-selling "Cherry Lips", and a tour edition released in 2002, put Australia as a top territory for Garbage.
Four singles were released from #beautifulgarbage (out of an intially planned six singles): "Androgyny" and "Cherry Lips", which were both top 20 hits at European radio, "Breaking Up the Girl, top 20 in Australia and "Shuit Your Mouth", top 20 in the UK.
In 1996, "#1 Crush" was remixed by Nellee Hooper for the seven million-selling Romeo + Juliet soundtrack, and was also a huge radio hit in USA, Canada and mainland Europe.
Not bad for an obscure early b-side!
And today has *another* Garbage anniversary... Today in 1996 the debut album was certified PLATINUM by the RIAA for shipping 1,000,000 units to retail stores in the United States.
Today in 2002, Shut Your Mouth was released across Europe (except Germany, where it's already out, and the UK, where the single release is cancelled as Mushroom is concerned that it will flop because Garbage aren't in the country to promote it).
