I try to read a little of either the 2000s or the New 52 each day to get myself caught up, but MAN the late 80s and 90s Superman comics are where my heart and mind live
I always get a kick out of seeing Superman in the classic suit with the cape. It lets you know that things just got really real. It also reminds me of a Super Powers figure that has gotten much love
Lena's return as Brainiac...14?....13.5?....was very cool
Also, I can't read the Luthor of this era without hearing Clancy Brown's voice https://t.co/nwELZWh0ak
Superman returns to Earth and discovers that an imposter has taken his place as Clark Kent (don't tell anyone, but it's really Matrix)
Action Comics #643 - June 1989
Superman overcomes his guilt over the execution of the pocket universe Phantom Zone despots
Superman #33 - May 1989
I love that Superman strongly believes in redemption, not in an overtly religious sense, but in a humanistic sense, that no matter what you've done wrong, it's never too late to start doing good
Y'know what? I say make the next Superman movie completely bonkers. Use the Prankster, the creepy doll version of Toyman, the 90s mustache twirling Brainiac, and ole' Purple Hat
I have to admit year 2000 Superman books were mostly a slog for me, but January 2001 is off to an awesome start
I appreciate the idea that a truly evil person becoming President can shift the metaphysical balance of the country and make it susceptible to an even greater evil
Adventures of Superman #586 (November 2000)
