When the Vulgraks came, they brought a profound wickedness, cruelty, and a desire to enslave that Aeres had never seen. For centuries, the fair realms have been dealing with the aftershocks of these creatures, who were so powerful that even the gods themselves couldn't stop them.

Yes, the "gods" or titans of Aeres were called the Immordran, which means something to the effect of "undying creatures" in an old tongue. Nine in all, they were born from potent swirling mists of aether in an ancient age, which coalesced into great magical creatures. 1/2

The most oppressive is Irilon, the once-ruined capital of men. Recently occupied by a cruel patrician who stakes a false claim to the throne, its a kingdom struggling to survive, where little grows in the country, and where haughty nobles look down upon a destitute population.

The fairest is Taldorius, the only "cosmopolitan" kingdom on Aeres. Ruled by a just round table of draconic knights, it's a safe haven for all good-hearted creatures great and small, where magic is encouraged and want is felt less keenly than in the open countryside. (1/2)

Tomorrow at 9:00 AM EST I'll choose three winners at random and respond/DM if possible. The PDF will be delivered via DriveThruRPG, and shipping for the map is on me. Entries from multiple-account holders are disqualified. Thanks!

I don't transform 5E into an OSR-like experience with our sword & sorcery expansion, the Doom that Came to Astreas. But we do encourage specific rules to harden the gameplay. One rule: death is permanent. No resurrection is possible. Even the greatest heroes can fall.

What's one detail or a piece of lore from your setting that completely fell flat with your players once they encountered it? Or maybe they even hated it? Or threatened to punch you?

He is! In our setting, ratfolk and humans are part of the same world. Not quite like Redwall. How would an average human hero react to encounter a mouse or rat hero? We're influenced by The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian!

One of the most entertaining Dragonlance series for me, I wish it had been continued.

Of course the earliest D&D art was delightfully cheesy, but that speaks more to budget constraints than anything else. Modern D&D art, though technically skilled, is often garish and videogame-y by popular demand. It's loud, over the top, and reminds me more of WoW than Tolkien.
