Munnings recalls; "A hundred times have I seen this sight, and yet it was more beautiful than ever... once more I saw the classic sight of bright silks against a dark sky... Each start was a fresh picture for me, as they have been, meeting after meeting, year after year."

At age 14 Munnings moved to the city of Norwich. The characters of Norwich inspired Munnings’ early paintings.
