Von Carolsfeld is associated with the Nazarene movement: A reaction against 18th-century Neoclassicism, and a return to art with a moral or religious purpose.

March 24, 1834: William Morris, English textile designer and leading member of the Arts and Crafts Movement, is born.

Morris was a lifelong friend of artist Edward Burne-Jones and they collaborated on a number of exquisite tapestries, including "The Failure of Sir Gawaine". 🎨

Referred to as the "Mother of American modernism", O'Keeffe's art was bold and innovative, and she saw success in her own lifetime.

This trompe l'oeil style painting is Roelant Savery's "Vase of Flowers in a Stone Niche", 1615.

It teems with lively little creatures that look as if they might crawl right out.

February 25, 1639: Flemish painter Roelant Savery dies.

Savery was apprenticed to his elder brother Jacob, who was also a painter.

After his brother's death, Roelant became court painter to Holy Roman Emperor Rudolf II (and his successor, Matthias).
