Skeletons!
When the knee bone connects to the heroic bone...
The Gargoyle! From the pages of The Defenders, Isaac Christians had a solo Limited Series in ‘85. The character created by J.M. DeMatteis & Don Perlin was a tormented elderly man who made a bad deal with a demon but became a hero. The mini was by DeMatteis & Mark Badger! Unusual!
The Night Shift! A creepy band of villains created back in the Bronze Age! With many Spider-Woman villains involved, this team was an interesting addition to Marvel’s pantheon. The “Halloween” type characters led by the Shroud added a criminal perspective that was unique.
Do you have a favorite Iron Man armor?
From the Silver Trashcan to the Silver Centurion; from the Nose to the Stealth...which armor do you prefer?
Tony probably had more costumes than Janet Van Dyne and Simon Williams combined!
I’ve always been a fan of John Byrne’s art. In my opinion, his work on the X-Men is the best. The entire Hellfire Club arc stands out to me; I think it is a notch up in terms of wonderful details and storytelling structure. Terry Austin added much with his beautiful inks.
It was past the Bronze Age (1997) but I got a kick out of the Amalgam mash-ups of Marvel and DC characters! Speed Demon! Super Soldier! Amazon! Challengers of the Fantastic! And all the rest...
Four ongoing comic book titles I would have liked to have seen back in the Bronze Age (but did not)! Black Knight; Acroyear & Bug; Union Jack; Stingray!
What are yours? Ongoing books you would have liked to see?
Fantastic Four #1 had a cover date of November 1961. A mere 10 years later (Nov ‘71) near the start of the Bronze Age, Spidey had 6 arms, Cap teamed with the Falcon, & The Avengers were battling in the Kree-Skrull War! Marvel covered a ton of ground in its 1st decade! Incredible!
Imitation is the greatest form of flattery! Homages to Paul Snith’s Uncanny X-Men #168...Songbird (by Mark Bagley) and Nightcrawler (by Jamie McKelvie)!
