Webs Concept art vs. Final Design
Webs actually changed very little throughout development except later being given a different color scheme to differentiate him more from Beatrice.
I guess you can't improve perfection.
The many concepts of Beatrice VS. her final design.
From early on I wanted a "Vampire Rogue" character, but had so much trouble making the character "feel" like she belongs in the main cast. Eventually she became one of my favorite characters.
Bolt concept art + Final design
Since Wraps and Alice were made before HorrorVale, Bolt is technically the first HV character ever made.
At first, all of the party members were going to be spooky twists on traditional RPG classes, and since Alice was a witch, Bolt was a knight.
His final form ALSO had several different iterations. Originally he'd be manning a giant mechanical monster that'd take up most of the screen. When I found it hard to fit in with the room the battle takes place in, the "Buff Ludwig" was born. Which also is cooler in every way.
Mayor Ludwig Concepts + Final Version.
Originally a pretty generic crazy old man, when I wanted to make him more interesting the brain in a jar was born.
Next was to be a bombastic, tall, intimidating Professor Membrane-like character.
Then Ludwig as we know him today was born.
Concept art of Kenneth + Final version.
Kenneth was partly inspired by the Egyptian God Medjed, who was a weird bedsheet man that shoots lasers from his eyes. Can Kenneth shoot lasers? Play the game and find out!
When I realized his "random" factor would mean no one would want to use him, I not only gave him control over Tall Guy, but I gave him a bunch of other monsters too.
Mask Guy concept vs. Final Design.
Mask Guy was blatantly inspired and meant to parody "Masky" from the Slenderman ARG "Marble Hornets", but he's also meant to parody 2009-2010 Slenderman ARGs in general. (He's also one of my favorite Party Members in the entire game)
